Need a 75? Buy this. Need a 65? Buy LG’s OLED instead

Some background: I own the following sets:Samsung 78JS9500 - 2015 Flagship FALDSony 75Z9D - 2016 Flagship FALDLG 65OLEDC6P - 2016 OLEDLG 55EC9300 - 2014 OLEDLG 55EA8800 - early 2014 OLEDIf you are looking for a 75” set, and you’re serious about quality, your choices are the Z9D for 9k retail (I paid 7600) or LG’s 77” G6 which is 20k retail. Is the G6 more than twice as good? No, in fact the S9D beats it in several categories. My overall rating I would say the OLED is 10% better. It has a considerably better interface (webOS is fantastic) , supports HDR and Dolby Vision, and has moderately better black levels. Personally I draw the line at about 10k for most I’ll spend on a TV. 20k, given TVs are making (IMO) considerable improvements year over year, I can’t justify it. If you are looking for a 75” set and want the best under 10k, Z9D is your answer. Now what about those shopping for 65? In no way, shape, or form would I suggest anyone pay MORE for a 65” Z9D than one of the 2016 LG OLED’s. You can buy the 65” Curved (my pick) or the flat B6 model for $2600 from several reputable sellers. The OLED is the better set; so no, I am not the kind of guy who will pay more for less. I don’t think there will ever be a time we see the 65” Z9D drop below the price of the C6P or B6 OLED’s, so it really makes no sense to buy it. I suppose you may be able to make an argument that if your TV is going to be used in an extremely bright room (tanning salon?) the extra brightness may be beneficial.Speaking of brightness, the Z9D gets BRIGHT! 1600 nits bright! 16 OLEDs clock in around 700nits, so Z9D can get twice as bright. That extra brightness does have a dramatic effect on HDR. But, OLED’s ability to have down to the pixel level control also has a dramatic effect on HDR. The two sets, in my book, are very competitive in HDR performance. So where does the Z9D best the 16 OLEDs other than brightness? Motion handling and color accuracy. LG has made considerable improvements year over year however, and their sets now are quite accurate, but I think Z9D has it best in that category. We will know soon enough, as Robert @ Value Electronics is having a new shoot-out putting the 75 Z9D up against the 77 G6 very soon. What about 940D? I’ve comparared them head to head. I would put the Z9D at about 25% better, if I had to quantify it. So your paying almost double for a 14 improvement. But that is how the high end always works, steep price for smaller gains. The x940D has blooming issues, lower brightness, less color accuracy, and is lacking the advanced HDR processing that the Z9D has. If you have no plans to watch HDR, 940D might be your set. But if you are like me, and think HDR is the best thing to happen to TVs in a decade, Z9D or 16 OLED is your answer.

Great TV unless…

…you have an issue and need to use Sony support. When you buy a top of the line product from a company you would expect top of the line support back from them. I purchased the 75Z9D and was actually very happy with it except one flaw that I could not live with. The screen appears to be out of alignment to where there is a light bleed on the edge of the screen. When going through the support process with Sony I submitted photos of the issue and was told by them that this was considered to be acceptable. Sony, you have now lost my business and I hope others thinking of purchasing this TV will take this in consideration when deciding what to buy. My TV is being returned.

Waste of $6000

Sony support offered a refurbished model to replace my $6000.00 faulty Sony TV. Refurbished for a top of the line model to a long standing devout Sony customer. Beyond disappointed and will never give Sony another nickel of my money because of it.

The best 4K TV on the market.

Wow this is the best 4K tv on the market. And the best tv that Sony ever made. I First purchase a Samsung un75ks9000 4K tv, me and my wife notice there was some red flickering kept showing up so I Return it back for a refund. Then I went back to my local Best Buy store and came across the Sony xbr75z9d I was never a big fan of Sony’s TVs but this one is the best looking 4K TV I have ever seen, and the picture quality is just mind blowing. and that the 3D is awesome as well. When I receive the TV last week the first movie I played was Kingsman The secret service. It was so clear the colors was stunning. and the second movie that I played was Lucy you can see the rich dark black that looks real good. then I started to Try out some 3D movies and the first one that I played was Avatar I was like wow this is the best TV that I ever own. So bottom line this TV is very expensive but it’s worth every penny.

I was already quite happy with my 2008 Sony XBR9 40” set

I was already quite happy with my 2008 Sony XBR9 40” set. I had no need or desire for a new set until I saw this set on sale around the holidays.

Sony Support, what a joke.

I saw this TV at Best Buy and it blew me away, I had to have it. The first TV Amazon sent had a two foot crack in the screen, my second TV they sent was a Samsung.
