First let me say this product works as described. You plug in the power cable, attach the composite RCA cable from your device, attach one end of the HDMI cable to the converter and the other to your TV/receiver and POW! Upscaled picture on your TV screen. This product would be great for an old DVD or VCR player. There is just one caveat; it outputs a 720p/1080p 16:9 image. You can select between 720p or 1080p, but it will always output in 16:9. That means if you want to hook up an old video game console (NES, SNES, Genesis, PSOne, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, etc.) it will stretch the 4:3 native image to 16:9. Most DVDs will be fine as they are natively widescreen. I, however purchased this primarily to connect my old consoles to the HDTV in my den, and it makes the games almost unplayable, since the image is stretched out.I gave this four stars because the device works, it works as advertised and does so quite simply. I just wish there was a bit more clarification with how it handles the signal. It was only $20, so I’m not too torn up about it. I just thought I’d leave a review so maybe anyone else looking in to this device for the same reasons I was will be aware of the drawback.
It works great with N64, I tried it with Zelda, Ocarina of time and with an Emerson Flat Screen. It looks better if you keep the screen at 4:3.You do not have to download any software, truly a plug and playonly downside is that the USB power to the converter is not included but an cell phone wall adapter works fine with it.
Ok I’ll start off stating that what i hoped for from this product didn’t pan out.It did convert an analog video to digital at 720 and 1080 (depending on what you selected on the switch) allowing you to go from rca device to hdmi (hoping my tv should then help the video quality).this device did nothing to enhance the video quality like it had mentioned, in fact the quality looks much worse on my tv at 720 and 1080 than when hooked up via the rca connections.so unless you have to had the hdmi connection don’t expect any video improvements from using then in fact you can expect worse video.my source was video from laserdiscs which border on dvd quality to a point. i’d say more like much better than vhs but not quite as good as a well done dvd but many dvd’s are not mastered well and laserdiscs are actually better.needless to say this was just money i wasted, its just going to go sit in a box somewhere sure to not be find able should i ever need it again as i go back to the composite rca cables that offered a better picture quality on my tv.
This device is garbage and construction is cheap. I’ve received two of them. The first one had an internal intermittent contact issue and simply didn’t work unless you put pressure on the HDMI connector. When a picture was visible, it was in black and white with horizontal color bands. The second one didn’t have the connection issue but also only produced black and white video with color bands. Don’t waste your money. The seller is great and made every effort to make things right, but a lousy product cannot be fixed with good customer service. Each shipment took three weeks, coming from Hong Kong.
Only buy this product if your TV/Monitor does not have analog inputs. That’s really all this product is good for, hooking up legacy devices to HDMI only devices.Bought this hoping to make my Wii a little clearer on a LG 42” LED. I understand that this would not really bring a 480i/p signal to real HD, but it actually made my Wii worse. I messed w/ TV settings for an hour or so. This device makes everything very white, no matter how much I adjust the contrast & brightness. Not only that, but it makes the audio worse as well. I have to turn treble and bass to negative levels so my TV speakers don’t buzz. I have to put TV volume no louder than “5” (LG LED) if I don’t want buzzing/rattling.In short, not only did it not upscale at all, it actually degraded the picture quality and it made audio worse. I’ve tried the box in both resolution modes with same results. Debating if return shipping charges are worth it.
It’s O.K., nothing too special. For one thing, this does convert the analog AV to the common HDMI we all use today, and does a not so bad job of doing it, but that’s all it does. Before buying this product, I thought it would improve my Sega genesis’s video output, but as it turns out, the quality is almost the same as hooking it up directly to an AV input on a T.V., for me at least. This is great if you’re the type of person who just wants a cheap and simple way of connecting an AV connection to the standard HDMI, but don’t expect the video quality to improve in anyway. If you have the money, spend it on a better converter that actually improves the video output, otherwise this works just fine.
It worked perfectly.
No longer working
I thought I needed it for my new smart tv but didn’t. I have no use for it
Item worked very well, just as expected.
It does not show video. I bought this hoping to convert my surround sound to hdmi and it was a complete fail.
Works fine.
works great
I would strongly recommend this to anyone using older consoles and just want it to work on an HDMI TV, its very simple and easy to set up and now I can enjoy my N64 on my tv set.
I pulgged it in and tried it, the audio worked but the video didn’t. I dont know if my setup wasnt ideal or not, but i tried many configurations and still got no signal.
