I bought this reader for portability and I only use CF and SD mostly…Few PLUSES:- It’s tiny! (half the size of my Sandisk ImageMate Reader)- It has CF, SD, microSD (I use microSD least though)- LED blinks when you insert - sometimes have to wait about 5 seconds to detect.- works on both my Mac and PC- works on all my super old SD cards (non SDHC ones)Tips / Few points to be aware of:- If you insert both microSD and SD side by side, it only read the first one that you insert.- So, do one at a time… I was just curious if it can read all 3 cards at the same time.- USB 3.0 is not supported by Mac (at least at the time of this writing)Pls click “Is the review helpful - Yes/No” so I know if it helps your decision making.
Yes, it is USB3, yes the cable is included. What they never say or show is that the cable is a USB 3.0 micro. If you need a reader with 18” of cable then this will work for you, if you need to get it from the back of your computer to the front then this will likely NOT be long enough and you will have to add a USB3.0 extension cable, or purchase a longer (or shorter) one.Review revised 8/1/2015 after correction by another user.
I wanted a USB 3.0 card reader that’s capable of taking advantage of the UHS-1 controllers built into the latest memory cards. While my current SIIG and Lexar USB 3.0 readers are pretty good, technology marches on and it’s important to keep up, if only to save time during transfers of large files. After getting the reader, I tested it with my Windows 8.1 system that has built-in USB 3.0 ports(a Lenovo laptop). And boy does this card reader deliver the speed. With my Transcend U3 speed capable cards, I got write speeds of 59 to 60 MB/sec, exactly as claimed, through this card reader. Even with older U1 speed cards, it was writing to them at 36-37 MB/sec steadily, sufficient to actually meet the U3 speed specification of 30 MB/sec.Read speeds were ridiculous in triple digits. I could move a 1 gig file so fast off the card that it was too quick to notice–less than 5 seconds. In brief, this card reader works well, delivers the speeds claimed, and is easy to carry with you when you need it. It has slots for microSD, SDXC/SDHC/SD, and compact flash. Other reviews have pointed out that you cannot use the microSD and SD slots simultaneously, so please be aware of that. Otherwise, this is an excellent card reader/writer that delivers exactly as advertised!READ MORE
Best card reader of the four I’ve owned. I’ve been using it every day for about three months. I haven’t used it for anything but regular size SD cards. I have one camera that uses Compact Flash but I rarely use that camera. It’s smaller than I expected but that’s not a problem. The USB 3 cable that comes with it is too short, I had to buy a longer one which added $8 to the cost of this thing. But, it is an excellent reader. Fast, flawless and easy to insert cards.
Just got mines in today. I saw someone posted a couple of years ago that this device does not work with SDXC 64GB cards, well I just put that post to the test and mines works great, and it’s super fast! I was previously using a digital converter drive SD/MMC reader/writer for transferring data from my SDXC 64GB card to my computer, and it was taking quite some time to make the transfer. On my Panasonic GH4 I shoot everything in 4k so they are significantly larger files than lower resolution footage. Well, with this Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-card reader/writer I am now transferring 4k data from my Transcend 64GB SDXC card to my computer in no time! This is super HUGE for me because it’s going to save me time and money! Now I don’t have to wait hours for everything to download. I’ve reduced that time to minutes with this device. Thank you Transcend!!!
Reader doesn’t recognize Nikon NEF files on a CF card from D810 when card is mounted directly on this card reader. So, saving camera battery in the D810 when transferring photos from the CF card mounted on this card reader did not work for me.However, recovery of other and older deleted files from the card was fast and seemed reliable. For this purpose the price is good.
As USB 3.0 speeds up connectivity - and my cameras take larger and larger pictures going to RAW format - it was time to upgrade my CF card reader to a higher speed. My HD memory cameras and videos also needed the speed and as always with Amazon - the price was right. Add in Amazon Prime shipping to my APO in Korea - and the delivery was fast, inexpensive and duty free. The USB 3.0 connection works as advertised - and pictures from my Cannon 5D flow much, much faster into my computer than ever before. My 24 month old MSI laptop handles the 3.0 capability quite nicely and photo editing is significantly faster using this new Transcend Card Reader. It’s small and light - takes up almost no space in my crammed camera bag. A no brainer for those who need faster transfer …
Great product at a great price! Small compact unit with multiple options, perfect item!
Reeds almost anything and it is nice and fast.
It’s very light, flimsy, and feels cheap. Worse, when you insert an MicroSD card, it goes so far into the unit that you either need needle nosed pliers or really long, strong…
Save your money…this is the second time purchasing a Transcend multi-card reader. After only 3 months use, it no longer works.
No special requirements needed. Product is as advertised and I’m happy with it!
Compact, works great.
it works great.
I’ve only tested this briefly, but it worked flawlessly reading an old CF card into my Windows 10 machine, and with good speed.
Works great with my mini SD card. Using Windows 10 the reader is recognized immediately when connected using USB.
