I absolutely love this bass

After a few months with this my thoughts are the same: I absolutely love this bass. Does not give some trebbely hifi sound and that’s exactly why I love it. A throwback sound, great construction throughout the bass, Played every bass I could find in the LA area this summer and this is what I zeroed in on: if you want a more modern sound the ibanez sr655 was the only other bass under a grand that I thought was in the 425x’s league. I also thought it was a much better bass then every american fender I played. Great Bass, not for it’s price or any other caveat, it is just flat out a great bass. I play blues and rock with this through an ampeg pf115 lf (ported portaflex) and a markbass little mark 250. Low and mean.

Wonderful and sweet bass.

The Yamaha BB series has the 424X, the 1024X and the 2024X basses. The X means that it has the somewhat oddly shaped pickguard for the US version (a little “twist” of the MusicMan and the Jazz Bass). The price more than doubles up the higher you go (the 1024X seems almost unavailable in the US and the 2024X is really aimed at professional musicians). I listened to all available sound samples of these basses on YouTube and for the average player (like me) there is almost no difference in between the sounds you can get (BTW, it would be great if Amazon would have a way to present the sound samples here). I also debated whether the TRBX series would be a better choice for me, but the simplicity of the controls and the classic style and PJ setup drew me to this model. One can argue about the active electronics, but there is a beauty in passive basses like this. It is a wonderful bass: great quality, beautiful finish, excellent setup, smooth neck…Although it feels a little heavy, the overall playability and comfort well worth it. Overall, I highly recommend this instrument to everyone looking for a versatile and simple bass; this is a perfect choice for a purist.

Solid, Adaptable, All- Around- Good Bass!

I’ve been diligently playing and studying bass for over a year now and after playing with 4 string Squier and Ibanez GSR250s, I decided I was ready to buy myself a “big boy” bass. Really wanted to buy something I could be proud of when jamming with friends and and also something that offered a low B so I could really fill that bass pocket. Needless to say, I got this Yamaha and I am NOT disappointed. I’ve had it two weeks now. Set up out of the box was pretty stress free, with only 2 adjustments made to the neck she was good to go. I assume only experienced players will get this bass, so a simple neck adjustment should be no sweat for them. It plays super smooth and the neck is only slightly larger than an actual 4 string. Tone crafting is VERY capable with the toggle switch that boosts highs or lows in such a natural and straight forward approach. It came with some great strings that I plan on keeping as long as possible. Final Words: If you want a good, classic looking 5 string, but, like me, don’t feeling like blowing $1,000 on a Fender V, get this bad boy.

sounds great

Wow! This Bass reaslly rocks!

She showed up on schedule and I didn’t put it down for the whole weekend. Very smooth action and slides are quick. It just feels like it was custom built for my hands. I couldn’t believe how good this guitar felt. It came out of the box with a near perfect setup. Next to no adjusting required. How does it sound? It Sounds like I am playing notes on a grand piano. And, it holds a tuning like a pit bull. The coloring and finish are excellent. I don’t think you can go wrong with a BB Series.Yes, I do recommend this guitar if you are in the market for good solid bass.

Outstanding bass

The BB424X is the least expensive in Yamaha’s BB series, but it is still high on quality. I was amazed to find the setup was close to perfect right out of the box. It’s got a great feeling neck and is solidly built. Fit and finish rivals and exceeds some of the more expensive basses on the market. The pickups sound punchy yet clear and the bass has great sustain and resonance thanks to the string through body. As such, it will require extra long strings in order to string it through the body, but the bridge is also designed to be top loaded, so you can also use regular long scale strings. The bass does not come with a gig bag, but there are several aftermarket bags and cases that will accomodate it’s size. I was able to find a lightweight polyfoam bass case and my Yamaha fits in it perfectly. Overall, I am very pleased with the BB424X and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile and and high quality instrument. Outstanding bass for the price!

Excellent!!

Slice through the mix like a claymore

This thing has some sort of Nord demon inside it that needs to get out. Powerful, beautiful, affordable, extremely playable.

Great bass!!

Bought this bass a few days ago at a local music store and…amazing!! The lows have an almost piano-like quality.
