I am a real estate photographer and reliability is a big issue for me. I had been using other flashes but they started to die one by one. I purchased this flash with much concern after reading the many negative reviews. Reliability was brushed aside in this case and I purchased the 565 EX II ETTL. for a Canon DSLR. Reliability took a back seat to the price difference between Canon and Yongnuo.I use flashes heavily about 5-6 days a week for one to two homes a day. So far I have been either very fortunate or the flash quality is holding its own. I have not had any failures or issues on either of this model. I also use the Yongnuo radio triggers. The only issue I have had for the triggers has been operator error. I would accidentally change the channels and they would not work. Of course the first thought was the flash is starting to fail. Then I would check the triggers WHOOPS! OE.I am sure Canon could market theirs for less but heck why should they? They have a segment of the market that can support the cost they sell theirs for.7/6/2014 I have return this flash. I could only get it into slave mode when it was NOT attached to my Yongnuo YN-622c radio triggers. I do not have the problem with the 565 EX
Bought this flash in Summer ‘14, used very lightly over the next year. Lighting was great, right on target, but then battery door broke for no reason I could determine (kept it pretty well protected, but obviously not protected enough). Sent off for replacement, waited a month, new door came from China and was the wrong size though I specifically gave them the model #, etc. So the flash is basically unusable. Tragic how such a little thing as a plastic notch or two can render a good device worthless….
I haven’t used this flash a lot since I bought. I have definitely used less than 10 times. in 2 years However, It’s been making overheating problem already. I can’t use it anymore. When I turn the flash on, it starts warning right away. I’ll make a Youtube video, and both show the problem and tell people not to buy this junk. I tried to contact the company, but they did not care, because I bought it through Amazon. It is now a junk. I will never buy any Yongnuo product again.
I have the first generation YN-565EX ETTL as well. The new one has a low battery and sound indicator, but the sound on the original is louder. I could barely hear this one while shooting photo booth pictures at an event.
Works great. Use these for outdoor OCF, wedding, portraits, etc. They sync perfectly with the Yongnuo transmitter and receivers.Pros:Great syncing with other Yongnuo productsQuick recharge/rebound timesMain functions are intuitive and easy to useWork well with Sony A7 and other Sony BodiesCons:The secondary menu (for things like auto-off, beep, etc) is confusing and difficult to navigate. I recommend watching the Youtube videos to figure them all outDoes NOT work well with the Sony a6000.
It does everything my Canon 430 does and even more. I also bought the YN-565EX and like the display and menus better. For the price, I am sorry I bought the Canon 430 first. The operator’s manual was written by a Chinese person that does not understand the English language. Other than that, I would highly recommend it. I use it along with 3 other speedlites and only wish it had an AC power supply to go with it. It does have an external socket for an optional battery power pack.
I got this flash because the first version was awesome. However, this one only works best in optical slave mode which I cannot control from my camera and flashes once any other flash goes off. Setting it to the wireless slave works 50% of the time. In fact i have taken pictures of this flash where the camera pop up flash goes off, the flash triggers and the infrared light shows up on the exposure. That is very weird and this happens A LOT of times. Maybe i got a defective item. Using it in slave mode does not give any issues though. So just have that in mind if you must buy this item.
bought for my Canon XTI. Does not work, the flash does not trigger regardless of what mode I am in.Emailed the manufacturer and they said they did not have an xti to test it on and recommended I return it for a refund.Tried it on my mom”s camera (T3) and it worked nice. Just seems to be incompatible with the XTI.
great
Absolutely awesome.
Economical speedlight for my Canon T6, Works as slave or on body flash.
It doesn’t work well with my canon t3i. The flash does fire however the images look underexposed in ETTL mode and overexposed in manual mode.
love my flash
This is a nice Speedlight, but I had to return it. It is missing a feature that is key for the pictures I take – High Speed Sync (HSS.
Been using this for almost a year. Have taken really good care of it and it works perfectly fine! Only upgrading because it does not have high speed sync capability.
Great product!
Horrible product. If I could give it a negative 5 stars, I would. The first one I ordered came a week late when I chose one-day shipping. so mad.
