Note: the LCD screen and patented internal technology Require a fully charged 9V battery to run effectively
Product Packaging:Frustration-Free Packaging Zircon has wrapped up their proven, patented technology into a revolutionary new form. The e50’s new body design can be held comfortably in either hand at any angle and reduces normal scanning errors. The rubber over molded grip also gives you a secure hold. In addition to a new shape and updated components, the sensor E50 offers several additional features to make finding studs and joists as easy and as accurate as possible: 1. Easy-to-read LCD display indicates stud edges updated spotlite POINTER shines an arrow-shaped light on the wall to mark the target. 2. Wire warning detection indicates the presence of live, unshielded electrical wiring up to 2 inches (51 mm) deep. 3. Should scanning begin over a stud, Zircon patented “over-the-stud” indication alerts the user to start the scan in a new location. 4. Patented trucal technology indicates when the tool is calibrated and ready to scan. The sensor E50 is a higher-end edge-finding tool, striking the right balance of affordability and features for casual users.
Serves its purpose, if you learn how to use it. Red projected arrow (its appearance and disappearance) DO NOT identify the stud location, at least in my case. Here is how it worked for me (confirmed through repetitive hole drilling so I know exactly when were my stud edges):As you move the device steadily over the wall, as soon as the sound and projected red arrow appear, this means that the stud leading edge lies approximately underneath the area between the “C” letter of the ZIRCON name, and black triangle above it. Maybe around this triangle vertex. See attached photo. The device seems unable to identify the trailing edge (where does the stud end). You should rotate it and scan backwards to identify the second edge, which will be the leading edge this time.
used this many times now. works really well. Had to mount several shelves and three flat screen t.v.s in an older house where we didn’t know what was behind the walls. I was able to line things up without making a lot of holes first. Very accurate for my needs. Runs on a 9V battery. After my experiences, hard not to recommend it.
I have to rub it along the wall and turn it off and on to get it calibrated, but it only takes a few seconds. Definitely an accurate enough stud finder for the money!
Love the way this fits in the hand. Works great , very pleased !!
It works as advertised. I would recommend this over the cheaper and smaller non-battery magnet stud finders - ultimately those still involve some guesswork, while this one shows you exactly where the studs are located. Using this, I pretend that I am a submarine using sonar to locate things hidden in the wall.My criticisms are: 1) It has a relatively lightweight and cheap feeling plastic body. It feels like it might break at some point after being manhandled in the field, and 2) It’s (unnecessarily?) bulky - about the size of a hand. It takes up a lot of room in my toolbox for something with such a niche application.
This thing is not as good as the old ones were. It is not consistent and could be much better. I would pay $50 for a stud finder that always works and is reliable. I got frustrated one day and this item ended up smashed on the car port. Now I use my old method, knock around for a stud and then measure 16” in the direction you want to go.
This review is for the Zircon StudSensor e50. I’ve used it on two separate occasions now, and with a little patience, found all studs I needed without any misses. Pretty much dummy proof if you’ve ever used a stud finder before or read the instructions. I used it on textured drywall and it worked well. The live electric wire function did seem to give a general idea if you were near an outlet and such. Not sure I’d trust it as the only means of identifying a live wire though as that function is fairly general. Fits well in the hand and the felt padding stuff seems like it’s holding up well with my limited use thus far. I’d buy it again, and think it was worth the extra 5 bucks for the screen, as it gives some hints of when you’re approaching a stud edge allowing you to be a bit more precise.
Great , I put up three shelves perfectly finding the stud
Stud finder works great. I think most of the negative reviews are from people who do not know how to properly use this. Watch the video and read the directions.
Very helpful and easy to use.
I have seen better ones. This isn’t as user friendly as it could be
It’s ok at best. Pick a spot direct center between where it gives you first indication of a stud and where it stops and maybe there is a stud there.
Works vvery well. Much better then the ones that you just rub on the wall.
Works great very accurate.
Excellent Product, Great Customer Service !!!!!
I love this tool! I would love it more if it comes with its own battery, but sadly it did not. It still does the job though.
Junk junk junkHUGE STUD ACROSS WALL, it missed it!! Had to pay someone and all we needed was the stud found!!! Amazon refund awesome, as ever!
