I bought these to port a set of chevy cast iron heads. They don’t cut super quickly, but they cut cleanly and stay sharp. So far I’ve used them for a couple hours of more or less continuous cutting and there is no sign of wear on them. They are also well balanced … I was concerned they might shake at high rpm considering how inexpensive they are but they run like a champ.Highly recommended!UPDATE These have now been used to port 2 sets of cylinder heads and do 2 custom HID projector installations along with numerous other grinding projects and they are all still running strong. Fantastic buy! The only way I can see ruining these is cutting something soft like wood and letting the bit overheat (Need the metal chips to take the heat away).
I reviewed this set once before but bought 3 more sets. This is the best buy I’ve ever seen for a home hobbyist. These burs will cut wood or steel and last well. One comparable Dremel Tungsten carbide reamer has a 1⁄8 working surface and is about the same price as the whole set here, and doesn’t do wood well. If you are a home hobbyist buy an inexpensive Dremel handpiece and rotary tool with the assortment of collets and this assortment of burs, and you’ll be set for most small sculpting jobs.Note that this set features burs with a 1⁄4” cutting surface on a 1⁄8” shank, and each one is a tougher tool than the 1⁄8” working surface tungsten burs. I created this steel and wood sculpture with the use of the burs
I have read some of the previous reviews. I purchase burrs of all sorts often, trying to find the perfect burr for each job and each different wood. Right now I have been struggling with a large piece of Spanish Cedar, and it has been fighting me every inch of the way.That being said, I had purchased three different brands and types of burrs of various expense at the same time, and tried a couple of the really expensive ones. Total washout. Then I pulled out the ZJchao, and started cutting. Man, it ate the wood ravenously, leaving a sweet, smooth path behind. I switched to another ZJchao head: same beautiful, effortless, easily controlled cut. It was love at first cut. I cannot say how the reviewer who was working ebony broke the head. I’ve carved a good bit of ebony, and while it’s hard, it’s pretty friendly. It’s my experience that every wood has preferences for the burr that will cut them. It’s best to have a large variety of brands to select from, and if one sort doesn’t like the wood, another will.
I use these for the less detailed parts of my wood carving projects where the routing attachment isn’t practical. They tear up the wood quickly and have greatly reduced my work time allowing me to focus on the fun detailed work.Mind the RPMs, especially on soft woods like pine. It can definitely burn.I prefer the case these came in to the tradional Dremel clamshell.
You need to buy these to go with your dremel tool. They cut through steel like butter, and even though at this low price they could be somewhat disposable, these are actually holding up VERY well. I have used one bit so far, and used it to chew through the head of a 15mm nut anchored to a recessed strut anchor on a VW Jetta (what were those Germans thinking putting a pressed in well nut up in a recessed shock tower?!?!?), and a 25mm axle nut on a Mini Cooper that wasn’t going to let go for love or money. Oh, and also a rediculous big torx head recessed bolt that held the Mini rotor to the hub bearing assembly (again, what were the germans thinking?). That was a “bonus” cut, because that stupid bolt had a stupid dill bit (titanium nitride coated of course) snapped off flush with it due to my stupid mechanic (<- that would be me).That’s a lot of metal to chew through, and I expected based on past experience to burn up 3 or 4 bits going through that much, and I am still on the first bit and it is only just now beginning to loose a little bite. These were all really awkward cuts also, so they were hard on the bit (limited angles of approach meant one spot on bit was taking most of the abuse). When you are cutting through tatanium nitride drill bits, you know you have a nice toolThat same Jetta bolt ruined two of the oscillating saw carbide blades, and I only went through half the head. This bit went through it like BUTTER. Each of those oscillating saw blades cost twice what this whole kit costs.This kind of bit will shed small razor sharp microscopic needles of the cut material, which can end up embedded in hands and eyes, so wear proper gear and clean up well when using them. This is true of any tungsten carbide bit.Anyway, get these. They will save you at some dark moment when all other hope seems lost. :)
I was doing some routing and noticed my groove was getting deeper and deeper due to the bit vibrating itself out of the collet. Turns out the bit’s shaft was 0.115” not 0.125” as advertised. That’s a big difference. The 1⁄8” collet couldn’t get a tight enough grip on the bit.This measurement was consistent across each bit in this set.These otherwise seem well enough made to the layman (me).
When I saw the item, I was not sure at first that this set was much different from other cutter sets for the Dremel, but these are completely different! They are, as advertised, heavy duty tungsten carbide cutters, and the price for a set of this quality is very reasonable. I’m very pleased with the set.
Worked great with my RTX for porting a Husqvarna Chainsaw. Burr’s were double the length of common Dremel accessories which made it great for reaching tight areas like 2 stroke small engines ports. Chewed through Cylinder wall hard plating with little effort. I was extremely impressed with how sharp the burrs remained after putting it on some fire wall plate steel in opening up the saw’s muffler. In addition it did not require the RTX at high speeds, very efficient in the lower rpms. Lastly ordered on a Friday and arrived in the mail on Monday from CA to MD.
A+++
works like they are suppose to
Well made, cuts fast and cutting edges hold up well.
Works great
